Simpul Studio has recently completed a renovation of Hibrew Coffee & Cuisine, transforming the six-year-old neighborhood café into a contemporary gathering spot while honoring its original house-like charm.
The architects chose not to alter the overall shape of the building but instead reinterpreted the façade using cost-effective methods such as punched openings, layers of transparent and frosted glass, and linear accents that complement the existing pitched roof. This strategic intervention not only invites passersby inside but also preserves the humble, residential character that defines the location.
Inside, the café features a subdued color palette and material honesty that cultivates a calm, grounded atmosphere. The muted gray walls and glossy black ceramic floors provide a neutral backdrop for a warm teak-wood ceiling, while expanded windows and skylights allow natural light to create shifting patterns of shadow throughout the day.
At the heart of the space is a sculptural bar clad in gray tiles, featuring recessed circular lighting that playfully nods to the café’s convivial spirit and minimalist aesthetic.
At the rear, an intimate garden-like courtyard strengthens the indoor-outdoor dialogue. Andesite stone pavers, white gravel, and exposed-concrete stairs lead to built-in benches, offering outdoor seating that visually connects to the interior.
This renovation project underscores Simpul Studio’s commitment to maintaining a sensitive balance between preservation and innovation, providing customers with a refreshed café experience.
