Leading Fashion Brands Come Together In The Wake Of Atlanta Incident

Leading fashion brands are coming together and are calling for unity between Black and Asian-American communities after a number of crimes against both minority groups.

The founder of American fashion brand Public School, posted on Instagram earlier this week regarding recent incidents.

“In the midst of rising anti-Asian racism we must push past reactionary nationalism, have an open dialogue around the history of our tensions, and re-establish the importance of our cross-cultural allegiance.”

OFF-WHITE founder and Phillip Lim also shared the post on their Instagram pages. Other known designers also put out calls on Instagram to #StopAsianHate, now a trending movement.

There were 3,795 incidents against Asian – Americans from March 19, 2020 to February 28, 2021. Over 500 incidents were reported since the beginning of this year alone.

On Tuesday evening, eight people (six of Asian descent), were shot dead in Atlanta. A white man was taken into custody, and police are determined to find the motive behind the shootings. It’s believe that the shootings reflected an “intersection of gender-based violence, misogyny and xenophobia.”
