The Weeknd Accuses the Grammys of Being Corrupt

The Weeknd has taken to Instagram and Twitter to express his frustrations with his After Hours receiving zero nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards.

The artist labelled the Recording Academy “corrupt” and called for its honesty. He wrote “The Grammys remain corrupt,” “You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”

Recording Academy interim president and CEO Harvey Mason Jr. “explained” why After Hours didn’t receive a single nomination. In an interview, he said “Y’know, it really just comes down to the voting body that decides,” “We have eight nomination slots to fill in [the “Big Four” categories: Best Album, Song, Record and New Artist], five in others, and the voters vote for their favourites. It’s really interesting, though.”

The Recording Academy chief continued with “all the records get the fairest of fair shakes” and that the committee listens to all the music. Mason Jr. then declined to reveal if The Weeknd made the shortlist.
