Tokyo – The World’s Best City to Live In

Global Finance magazine has officially named Tokyo as the world’s best city to live in. The Japanese city finished above London, New York and Singapore. The placing came down to a number of factors as well as measuring which city has the highest quality of life.

The decision also included this year global events (Covid-19), as death figures were used in calculations and were weighted by a factor of three. This particular metric was used alongside cultural interaction, liveability, accessibility, economic strength and research and development.

The main reason why Tokyo claimed the top spot was simply due to Japan’s response to Covid-19. This includes the country closing its borders and postponing the Olympics. Countries such as Milan (placed 40th), Barcelona (38) and Madrid (35), fell down the list due to how the pandemic affected them. Covid-19 also impacted the top 10 placing countries, as East Asian cities did well this year. Seoul was named eighth, while London came 2nd due to the level of U.K. deaths and infections.
