Youtube has been known for giving us an endless amount of vlogs, tutorials and funny cat videos over the years, but Google thinks it can change the way we currently perceive the platform. Youtube will soon be venturing into the world of online shopping in order to become the go-to shopping destination.
The video site recently asked some of its content creators to use Youtube’s software to track and tag products that were featured in their videos, linking out to shopping tools generated by Google. The main aim is to feature different products within videos in order to create an online shopping platform. Viewers will then be able to watch a clip and purchase products directly from Youtube or Google.
Youtube’s content creators will still have full control over what products they decide to list on the platform. This is currently being trial and tested on just a handful of channels as it’s still in the experimental phase. Youtube are keeping their lips sealed regarding the rest of the project.
