John Hopkins University has recently announced that the current number of Coronavirus-related deaths has now hit one million — more than 205,000 of them from the United States.
As the pandemic continues to wreak havoc on a global scale, countries like Brazil (142,000 deaths), India , and Mexico (76,000 deaths) have suffered the largest number of fatalities, adding to the estimated 5,000 lives lost to the virus every day. As it stands, COVID-19 has claimed more lives than AIDS in 2019 (690,000) and is rapidly approaching the annual global death toll of tuberculosis (1,5 million).
Speaking to CNN Dr. Mike Ryan, director of the WHO Emergency Program, said: “The prospect of two million global deaths from Covid-19 is certainly unimaginable … but it’s not impossible.” This shocking assertion adds up as it was only three months before the death toll increased from 500,000 to one million today. Others worry that the figures will grow much higher, with more than two million deaths before the official vaccine is released.
We hope you are all staying safe out there.
