New Series 6 Apple Watch Released

Apple has unveiled the latest range of its smartwatch device, the Apple Watch Series 6, as well as the new entry-level Apple Watch SE. The Series 6 features the same design introduced in the Series 4, but with improved sensors that measure blood oxygen and track user sleep patterns.

According to Apple, the Series 6 is capable of calculating blood oxygen levels in 15 seconds using red and infrared light. As such, the company has collaborated with health networks to carry out a broad analysis of the new function, including testing to see whether it can identify those infected with COVID-19. The new smartwatch also features a new S6 processor capable of 20 percent faster performance than its predecessor. Last year’s Series 5 used the same CPU that was introduced in Series 4, but this new processor builds on Apple’s latest A13 chip.

The Apple Watch SE will act as the successor to the Apple Watch Series 3 and the lower-cost entry for the product line. It features a range of Series 3 hallmarks, including compass, fall detection, swim-proof chassis, face sharing, and more. But the always-on monitor seen in Series 5 does not appear. However, the previous S5 chip will be used, watchOS 7 will be run, and Bluetooth-only and cellular options are available.

The Series 6 presents a new Solo Loop harness made of one piece of silicone in a number of different designs and colours. A new Solo Loop made of yarn is now available in five colours, as well as a new leather attachment harness. The smartwatch itself will be available in gold, graphite, blue and PRODUCT (RED) from $399 USD (Approx £306). The Apple Watch SE is starting at $279 USD (Approx £215). Both are available for order today and are scheduled for shipment on September 18.

In other news, case designs confirm the production of four Apple iPhone 12 models.
